Congratulations to Ava Johnson, STATE RUNNER-UP in the Poetry Out Loud Recitation Contest!
Ava Johnson, our school’s 2018-19 Poetry Out Loud finalist, took judges by storm again at this year’s qualifying Recite Night round and our Poetry Slam POL finals, ranking first place at both events to qualify as our school’s 2019-20 finalist. As our PPCHS participant at the Poetry Out Loud state competition, Ava recited “The Mortician in San Francisco” by Randall Mann, “Thoughtless Cruelty” by Charles Lamb, and, since she advanced to the third and final round, “Dream Song 14” by John Berryman. Her stellar performances earned her the second place title at the state level, an honor which also came with a $300 award as well as $200 from the Poetry Foundation to add to our school library’s poetry collection! We are so very proud of Ava for representing Pembroke Pines Charter High School with such excellence!
