While our past Debate Mentorship program mentored elementary students in all different types of debate events, our current Debate Mentorship program focuses on mentoring middle school students. Usually once per week, select members of the Pembroke Pines Charter High School Varsity Debate team visit a 7th and 8th grade speech and debate class at the Pembroke Pines Charter Middle Academic Village Campus to mentor and model public speaking techniques, speech events, and debate events such as Public Forum, Congressional Debate, and Lincoln Douglas Debate.
“The debate mentorship program has been an incredible experience for both our mentors and mentees. By teaching children the basics of argumentation, we equip them with the tools to think critically and expand their understandings of the world” (Mariana Colicchio, PPCHS Class of 2021).
